KitchenAid Mini Mixer – A Closer Look
So we know it’s smaller and lighter. That’s great. But there’s a couple of things to consider here.
Firstly, the bowl doesn’t have a handle. I don’t know why KitchenAid doesn’t make handles standard on all their bowls. Maybe it’s cost. Might be for looks. Either way, handles make them easier to use and more practical.
Next, it doesn’t come with a pouring shield. I admit that the shield doesn’t make it spill or splash proof, but it does help.
Fact is, the Classic is the same in terms of bowl features, so I don’t want to sound like I’m being negative about the Mini. Just something to consider when you’re making your purchase.
Does Size Matter?
You bet it does! Here’s the KitchenAid Mini Mixer beside it’s big brother – the Artisan.

3 Times The Charm!
Here’s an overhead look comparing the Mini, Artisan, and Pro.

Anyone For Cookies?
Here’s a head on look at the same threesome.

But Does Smaller Mean Lesser?
No. And yes. Wait, let me clear that up. You want to talk power? It has the same power as the Classic. But at 250 watts the Mini is on the low end of the Kitchenaid mixer power scale. On the flip side, it’s compatible with all the amazing mixer attachments. However, since the bowl is smaller, the beater, hook, and whip are too – but they kind of cross each other out since they’re designed to work efficiently together for size.
Sound confusing? Don’t let it. The Mini is a proper KitchenAid mixer. It’s never going to rival the muscle and brawn of the Pro Series, but it was never meant to. Use it for the quantities it’s designed for and you’ll get fantastic results.

Artisan Mini Mixer In Action
Here’s a nice video KitchenAid put together showing off their newest mixer.
Pros
- Sleek design
- 25% lighter, 20% smaller footprint than Classic
- 10 speeds
- Tilt head for easy access
Cons
- No handle on bowl
- Smaller sized beaters to match bowl (so not interchangeable if you already have some)
Final Thoughts
Yes, it’s smaller. Yes, it’s lighter. But it’s really not much cheaper so cost isn’t the main reason to make this purchase. Design and simplicity is what’s featured here. Not everyone needs to prep large quantities, so why not have an elegant tool that meets your more minimalist needs?
